This week, the highly innovative young companies Grizzly Electronic Systems GmbH from Bamberg and Golden Devices GmbH from Erlangen delivered a radar system featuring 3D-printed waveguide antennas to an industrial client. This was an extremely technically challenging project requiring close cooperation between our companies.
However, the most critical factor in the contract was the extremely tight timeframe from specification to small-batch production. All project participants were aware that the development of a new 28-channel radar system based on waveguide antennas, followed by series production, normally takes many months or even years.
The paradigm shift:
Based on Grizzly’s proprietary KESTREL advanced radar technology and Golden Devices’ 3D-printed waveguide technology, the time from specification to market entry is reduced by a factor of several. At the same time, 3D printing allows for a completely flexible response to new technical requirements, and production volumes can be precisely tailored to end-customer demand during the ramp-up phase.
Mark Sippel (CEO, Golden Devices) commented:
“Combining Grizzly’s highly flexible KESTREL radar platform with Golden Devices’ equally highly flexible 3D-printed waveguide technology opens up entirely new dimensions of value creation for our customers. In particular, it enables small and medium-sized enterprises to benefit from high-performance radar technology.”
Barrett Lee (CEO, Grizzly) commented:
„This delivery marks another step in the growing partnership between Golden Devices and Grizzly Electronic Systems. The development time achieved is a real milestone and proof that both companies’ technologies work exceptionally well – particularly when combined. I think you can see it in the photo: it’s really good fun!“
